Biography
KILLARY is a Peruvian singer raised in the musical valley of the Majes River. Her name means “moonlight” and ever since she was a child she has lived Peruvian music up close, playing and singing with her father and uncles in many venues. Even as small girl, she yearned to take her music to new places; always singing, always searching, always Killary.
KILLARY believes in peruvian folklore, because she believes in Perú; because she believes that Peruvians and their art can add true magic to the world. That is why Killary cultivates TRADITIONAL PERUVIAN MUSIC, both in classic formats as in new proposals of WORLD MUSIC. She cultivates tradition to find it new spaces and new sounds.
In 2008, Killary records her first album: “SONG AT DAWN”. In 2012 she was invited by the Andean Community of Nations to sing in a record that gathered renowned folklore musicians from Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. In 2013 she recorded her second album: “ORIGINS”, which would take her to the Viña del Mar International Music Festival in Chile, with her hit “HUAYNITO TO SING”.
Killary has also participated in the SONAMOS LATINOAMERICA FESTIVAL in it’s peruvian edition and was also invited to sing in its edition in Rosario, Argentina. In 2015 she closed the first INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF YARAVI, in Lima. At the same time, she performed as lead Andean Singer in the National Folklore Ensemble of Peru, representing her country in many international stages.
In 2015, the editorial council of the AMERICA DAILY NEWSPAPER GROUP (GDA, which includes many of the main newspapers in Latin America) considered Killary a: “A Latin American musical promise”
In 2018, Killary releases her THIRD ALBUM: “MOON OF AREQUIPA” (“Luna Arequipeña”), a tribute to music from her native Arequipa, in southern Peru. The album combines solely songs of traditional Arequipa music, both in new renditions of classics and in new compositions of yaravis, huaynos, papeñas and marineras.
Killary is also in the preproduction stages of two new musical projects, one dedicated to children and the other is an exploration of yaravi with the award-winning Miguel “Chino” Figueroa, both expected in 2018. And so she continues, always singing, always searching, ALWAYS KILLARY.
